Set on
a high knoll over the river Ness is Inverness Castle.
Today
as in times gone by the castle remains the centre of the old town
of Inverness.
In
daily use even today the castle still stands at the end of High
Street as a proud landmark to all Invernesians (the inhabitants of
Inverness) |
 |
|
| |
 |
At the
opposite end of High Street is some may say a modern-day castle, in
the form of the new Eastgate Shopping Mall.
Recently
extended to now include many of the national stores outlets as well as
the local small shops, which also abound in the streets and byways Inverness City
proper. |
|
| |
Inverness is rightly famous for it's many Churches and Cathedral.
Many
of which are sited on the banks of the river Ness. The
rivers bisect Inverness and then
carries the water from Loch Ness out in to the Moray Firth and beyond
to the North Sea. |
 |
|
| |
 |
Another
landmark on the banks of the river Ness is the Eden Court Theatre.
Eden Court
promotes an ever increasing range of productions, and during your
visit there are bound to be some which match your cultural leanings. |
|
| |
Looking east from the footbridge over the Ness at Eden Court,
towards the city centre gives a sense of timeless tranquillity
which pervades this part of our city.
Even
today it is not an uncommon sight to see fly-fishermen (in
Struthers ) apparently marooned in the centre of the river Ness,
tempting perhaps that trout or salmon onto that delectable fly. |

A
cabers-throw from our Castle is the Town House, in fact it's the next
building. Today it's put to municipal use but it's grandeur and
presence perhaps stand as a beacon against modern times.
The town
house is just one of many fine old buildings which are scattered
throughout the city centre so be sure and raise your eyes and look above
any shop front to see our history looking down at you. |

Each
year Inverness holds The City of Inverness Highland Games,
which is in fact just one of many held in and around the immediate
surrounding area.
But
of course ours are the best!
Be
sure and check out the dedicated website to see just what you
cannot possibly miss. |
